The homes of Leeward Yacht Club are being built beyond hurricane standards. We use #1 Florida kiln dried cypress for all siding and exterior trim. Cypress is a close grain, very dense weather and rot resistant wood. To go the extra mile Leeward Yacht Club pre primes the front and back sides of the cypress with a double coat of oil based primer before shipping to ensure the longevity.
The island and cays of the Abacos are composed of limestone rock and there is no better base to build on than solid rock. The homes are anchored with poured concrete footers that bond with the limestone rock. To reduce the risk of uplift during a storm, the houses are framed over extensively and tied down with the strongest hurricane metal strapping and plating on the market.
